Set off on an unforgettable adventure with our Gramvousa – Balos excursion, departing from the port of Kissamos.
After a scenic one-hour boat ride that takes in the breathtaking views of the Gulf of Kissamos, you’ll arrive at Gramvousa, also known as the island of the pirates. Spend about 1.5 hours exploring the Venetian castle or sunbathing on the sandy beach.
It’s then back on the boat for a 20-minute journey to the stunning Balos lagoon, where you’ll have around 3 hours of swimming in the tranquil turquoise waters.
The majestic scenery of Gramvousa Island and the Caribbean-like scenery of Balos are sure to leave you wanting to return.
Nestled on the northwest coast of Crete, Balos Lagoon is a stunning natural landscape of crystal clear turquoise waters and powdery white sands. This idyllic paradise is framed by rugged cliffs and dotted with small islets, creating a picturesque setting reminiscent of the Caribbean.
Standing proudly in the Cretan Sea, the island of Gramvousa exudes an air of mystery and intrigue. Its rocky terrain and Venetian castle ruins bear silent witness to centuries of history, while offering panoramic views of the surrounding azure waters and neighbouring islets.

The approximate pick-up time for our excursion is 07:45. Please note that the exact time may vary depending on the location of your accommodation.

Please note that the duration of our excursions is not fixed, as this depends on a number of factors. In general, we aim to keep them around 8 hours, starting early in the morning, shortly after breakfast time at your accommodation, and aiming to return before dinner time.
We recommend you bring your favourite beachwear and all the necessary beach equipment. Don’t forget to bring sun cream, a hat and sunglasses and to stay well protected and well hydrated in the sun.
Comfortable shoes are recommended but not essential if you plan to walk to the Venetian Castle.
If you are sensitive to boat travel, we recommend that you bring any necessary medication for your comfort.
In the event of bad weather or unforeseen circumstances, the safety and comfort of our travellers are our top priorities. Our team will assess the conditions and make appropriate decisions, which may include rescheduling the excursion, modifying the itinerary, or providing alternative activities.
